Dubu Jorim (Spicy braised tofu with Egg)
Saw this braised tofu recipe in the Korean TV Food Programme "What shall we eat today?" and thought of give it a try since my husband likes tofu a lot and this version seems to have more gravy and appetizing with a bowl of hot rice! And not to forget it's also full of protein from the tofu and eggs! ^^
If you like a more simple version of dubu jorim, may check out my previous post.
Cooked two version of tofu for dinner tonight: Spicy dubu jorim for husband and Chinese style steam soft tofu with minced mushroom and prawns in black soy sauce for my little boy.
Serving: 2
Ingredients:
2 block frim tofu
2 egg
1/4 medium size yellow onion (sliced) *I was running out of onion and didn't add in this recipe.
Some oil for frying tofu
Chopped spring onion for garnish
Sauce:
1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chilli pepper paste)
1/2 tsp gochugaru (Korean chilli pepper powder)
1 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
80 ml water
Step by step photos:
- Rinse and cut tofu into 1/2 inch thick, rectangular size (you can cut into square size too depend on your own preference).
- Prepare a non stick pan, heat it over low fire. Dap excess water from tofu with kitchen paper towel and place it in the pan.
- Fry both sides of tofu until golden brown on medium heat.
- While the tofu is frying, prepare sauce by adding gochujang, gochugaru, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil and water. Mix well together.
- Once the tofu is done fried golden brown on both sides, lower the heat and add in the sauce mixture (Add in the sliced onion too if you use onion).
- Once the sauce starts to boil, crack two eggs and add inside the tofu, add some chopped spring onion too.
- Close the lid and let it simmer for about 2 to 3 minutes over low heat.
- Off the fire and serve with a bowl of hot rice! Bon appetit~ :)
